As an alternative to mixamo, here is Plask.AI

🔎︎

Another free online 3D animation service with a difference...

You automatically upload/rig/animate your 3D models by making your own animations using any video source (rather than picking pre-made animations from a list).

Use either your own webcam - or any video file (Simply click the camera icon to record directly from webcam or click the plus icon to add video file to your library) to apply the animation directly to your model!

The example file.exe is a test I made using a video from youtube (downloaded using "9convert"). Took only 2 minutes to make from scratch (around the same time as mixamo) and then imported directly to coppercube.

Videos are limited to 5 minutes for free users (more than enough for game character animations).

the plask.ai website:
https://plask.ai/

the youtube video I used @ 1min56sec:
https://youtu.be/TToCMj9zcos?t=116

the video downloader I used:
https://9convert.com/

the final coppercube demo/test...
https://drive.google.com/file/d/...

By the way, it automatically masked the video and ignored the background. The animation could do with cleaning/optimising - because it actually ripped every single one of the 900 video frames but there is a handy "filter" button in plask which automatically smoothes the animation for you (I didn't use smoothing for this demo).

This means we can either act out our own animations using a webcam or simply borrow/steal them from movies and real-life actors and apply them to our own characters for use in Coppercube!

For multiple animations - either merge the animation data by importing to blender/ultimateunwrap/fragmotion as normal - or......
simply edit your video file first - so you have all your character animations in one long video file which will be ripped by plask as a single animation file (which can then be split into individual clips using the coppercube animation editor window).

Oh Wowee!! this sounds awesome, haven't tried it yet but getting animations from video sounds like next-gen tech to me. Thanks a lot for posting this thread.

You're welcome. Yes! I'm really love this kind of technology - especially for free. This really opens up so many possibilities for me with Coppercube.

I do have a motion capture device and software but have never actually used it due to the hassle of setting it all up and having space to move around etc.

Plask seems like a bit of a dream.. and it worked on my first try even though it's still in development. Very exciting times.

It's becoming more advanced almost on a weekly basis. I was sad to hear that mixamo will close in the future but I guess these will be the new alternatives. Soon, making characters, animations, terrains, buildings and environments will become so realistic and easy to do - possibly even with real-time generation of all gaming content and missions - made on-the-fly by neural network algorithms.

Thank you very much VP for the tip, this service is amazing! I also love these technologies, without a doubt it will help a lot in our creations! I believe Mixamo will not be discontinued, but will start charging for some animations, keeping the basic ones free! But even so, it's a great idea to have new alternatives and the one you presented to us seems to be even better and more promising than Mixano!

Did you know that there are softwares that convert 2D images into 3D objects? For example, we can use a photo of a car and get a 3D object model of this to use in games! I need to research more this and see what options for this type of software exist.

Yes, andgameplay registered - I think you're right about Mixamo, they will probably add more features and start charging for the service, keeping the old service free.

I have seen tech-demos that can convert a photo to 3D and also saw a tech demo of an entire 3D scene being made by an neural-network algorithm from a single photo.

Really hope these become an app/software soon as the possibilities will be endless.

another one similar to Plask... I'm not sure it is as versatile to use in CC thought...

anyway, check it out if interested.

Thanks count2rfeit awesome!

I've not tried it yet but it looks really good so I bookmarked it. Will check it out properly tomorrow.

I think I'll be spending some time ripping animations from various action movies.

Great stuff!
