I installed RocketCake 5.0.1. I noticed something that I never noticed before. When opening RC it states FREE VERSION.

Am I wrong, I thought that since I purchased RC all updates are free. Is that not true? If it is true then why does RC say Free Version?

Copied from the website:
Free updates to all minor updates and service packs (example: if you bought RocketCake in version 5.0, you will get all updates until (excluding) the 6.0 release for free!)

Further on this: Owners of a RocketCake 4.xx license will get the 5.xx license at a 50% discount. See here

I LOVE RC. But, when I purchased the PRO version I thought my program would remain the PRO version - even if a newer version was offered.

I had no idea that when a newer version was offered (and, instructions said just download/install next to old version...or remove old version) that I would revert to the free version.

If I had known this I would have asked the cost of downloading and installing a NEW PRO version. Am I missing something here?

Right. Your license does not expire - even if a newer program version is offered. You can use your v4.xx Pro for as long as you want, and get any v4.xx update for free.

Major updates (such as v5.xx, v6.xx and so on) require a license update to be used as Pro. But you don't have to update your license. You can install v5.01 alongside your v4.xx Pro and try it out before you decide whether to trash it, to use it as Free, or to update your license to turn it into Pro. Regardless of what you do with the v5.xx install your v4.xx Pro will still be availabe.

Downloading and installing a new version is always free - and will always give you the Free version of RocketCake. If the new version is a major update (such as v5.xx, v6.xx and so on) and requires a license update to turn the install into Pro it's up to you to decide by when or if at all you want to update your license. And again - your existing Pro version will still be there (unless you have uninstalled it).

Overall, I think that's a fair and userfriendly approach as it allows to try new versions at no risk

Thank you for your responses. Again - had I been aware that downloading the updated RC would revert to a free version I would not have DELETED my pro version.

If this fact was in the small print somewhere I am sorry I missed it.

So, now I have a free version instead of a pro version - what would it cost me to get my pro version back?

Downloading the updated (v5.01) RC did not revert to a free version. It works as a free version because you don't have licensed this version.

There isn't any "small print" on the RocketCake website.

To get your Pro version back won't cost you anything. Just re-install your previous version and re-enter your license code.
To turn the new version into a Pro version update your license. See here https://www.ambiera.com/rocketca...

micaelo - no question here. Just a couple of statements.

1. I appreciate your answers - I really do. BUT - I was hoping Niko would respond to my inquiry since it was an update and previous pro purchase question.

2. I do not have my original install or license information - all was lost in my previous computer.

3. You did NOT explain anything that was obvious to me...not at all. In fact, I still do not have the answer to my question. So, lets just see if Niko will respond. If not - all is ok.

You should address your request directly to Ambiera via the contact form on the RC website.

Well, that's something you didn't mention so far, and that means it's not really an update issue. You would be in same trouble if there had been no udpate meanwhile. Practically, you are in a situation as if you had installed RC the first time, and never had purchased a license.

I see 2 options:

A) Restore your previous Pro version (at no cost)
- ask Ambiera to find your v4.xx license key
- ask Ambiera to provide you with a v4.xx download link
- install the v4.xx version and enter your old license key

B) Make a new start with current RC version (at 50% discount)
- ask Ambiera to find your v4.xx license key
- use this license key to buy a new license at 50% discount
- enter the new license to your RC v5.01 install
