I want to create games with 2D characters in 3D environments, particularly similar to earlier 3D Ys games (Origin, Ark of Napashtim, etc). I always liked the look of those games, and I feel like CC would be well suited to that kind of setup. Also, the environments will be somewhat easier to produce than if I was going for a full 360-degree type 3D environment. In the (3D) Ys games, the camera basically has two modes... One where it always stays locked to the player and just moves around with them. In the other case, the camera remains in one spot, but rotates to follow the player - usually when running on curved walkways, etc. I'm thinking that's accomplished by creating the two camera types, and using the appropriate one for a given level/zone. I added the small shadow beneath each frame to better "ground" it in the scene. The green texture is just a janky "grass" texture I whipped together that doesn't tile well. Like I said.. Nothing to write home about lol.. But it's something to start with. Next steps is to work out some basic movement to get the character moving correctly on the platform. I've tested the built-in movement options and things get wonky when I try to move around. I think I'll have to create a custom movement script. Which is fine. All just learning how to do it. Anyways.. Just wanted to share my first "little victory" in CC.
