I just want to share my experience.
If you want to use popular google font like Roboto in RocketCake you should do the following:

1. add to the heading section:
<link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Roboto" rel="stylesheet">

2. when you choose font family, write manually something like:
Roboto, open-serif

Now you will get your text in Roboto. Good luck!

P.S. if you use masterpage, just add font with single line in masterpage heading - it will work on all pages.

One additional note: don't panic if you see no text format changes in your RocketCake editor - you will see your embedded font only in browser (preview or publish).
