I am disappointed in you, Mr. Gebhardt. You are a vampire who is sucking 1900 euros from the necks of your customers. Anybody who buys into that is a blockhead.

I spent a year developing a powerful 3D scene/map editor. I experienced bugs and sleep deprivation... so what. I felt excited the day I had released the application along with the source code because I knew that part of my project would serve an educational purpose, and not because I saw an opportunity to eat some sweet, juicy brains. I was congratulated for my achievement. I received the ovation of my peers and then vanished into thin air.

Users are not victims of whom you can sink your teeth into and suck blood, at least not through my eyes.

What's your problem? You are aware of the fact that irrEdit is totally free? You can use if for free. Only if you want the source you have to pay.

And about open source: Don't you know that he wrote the Irrlicht Engine nearly on his own and published the whole source for free as well?

So wormboy, what is your problem again?

Hm, I don't understand your problem either, so you are complaining that irrEdit is not open source? Or didn't you see that it is free to use?

My guess is that after reading the title of this thread, you immediately became anxious to reply. Had you carefully read my post... sigh... nevermind. You'll probably miss it the second time around.

21 10 08 - 19:29 They should be appreciated to you because you developed really great products, (i just love Irrlicht) but the world is simply going wrong…
Hmm. I wonder why...

21 10 08 - 19:48 Everybody can understand stand you have to earn money to pay your bills.
What? You don't have enough money to pay your monthly server bills?
Then you go out and collect cans!

But don't take advantage of "Joe six-pack". This guy is a blockhead: rather than invest his money, or save in case of an emergency, he decides that he is going to purchase a license. Mr. Gebhardt, you and I both know that there are many others like Joe six-pack. I'd be more than happy to share my knowledge, for free, with Mr. six-pack. As a matter of fact, I don't even care who uses my source-code or what they do with it. Why? Because, I am simply writing graffiti on the wall of history.

Hey wormtongue,

Apparently you don't get the point: IrrEdit is already free (of charge) as long as you don't want the source. And that alone is a whole lot more than you, Joe Sixpack or anybody else* can expect, because it's Niko's software, not your's and he is free to do with it whatever he likes. Also I strongly doubt that you have done just nearly as much for the community as Niko has by open sourcing the jewels among his excellent software. So please stop bitching around and fix your own goddamn software. Because "expensive competing products" are hardly the reason that nobody wants to use your free editor.
Sometimes I wonder how freetard zealots like you can't see that your bold behavior is driving more and more talented young people away from open source. What do you expect from actions like this?

* Except for Chuck Norris maybe, but he could roundhouse kick Niko and take the source by himself - he certainly doesn't need you. Nor does anybody else on this planet.

@wormboy,
I don't heard nothing about such tool.
Where we can find a link to your tool to try it?
Have you published any link?
It's based on Niko's sourcecode or not ;) ??
Just curious, but when you address such criticism without arguments, at least you have to give possibility for comparison.
My opinion is that only one year of work is not enough for creation of similar mature product.
