Boom. Nice video. They both actually look great! For the difference though, the height map is pretty amazing in terms of file-size, map-scale, texture detail and speed of generating huge, realistic terrains. I think you can smooth out the jagged-blockiness of the mountain peaks simply by changing the "tile-size" of the terrain mesh prior to generating the terrain. Decreasing tile-size would increase poly-count and smoothness - but at least you have fine control over how you want it to look. On a side note, it's also possible to create city buildings just by importing a height map into coppercube. Admittedly, texturing the buildings would be awkward - but it could be handy for backdrops or simple/cell-shaded games. Never even thought of trying it until seeing your video. Thanks! |
