I have just created a new site and in the Master Page I created the horizontal navigation with drop down items and for all the other pages they are copies of the Master page. The menu panel is on the pages but no action from them.

I have yet to upload the pages to the host servers. I am afraid I am a WYSIWYG user and do not do any coding.

Easiest would probably be to put the navigation menu on the master page. Right?

The Master page is the page wher you would put your logo ect along with your nav bar at top of page. At bottom of page you would have your footer which is normally your contact detals etc. But in the middle of the page it is important to insert a content placeholder. With this the rest of the pages on your website will look the same as this page, but will also have the details from that page as well. The index page should be your home page, do not rename this as it need to be called index.html to work properly, so on the index page just insert what you want your home page to look like. Now then when you are on index page lokk down at the bottom left hand side of the screen and in properties ensure that use master page has a tick in it, then select master page from the drop down list. This ensures that this index page will carry the header and footer details from your master page. You must do this for all new pages that your create if you want then to be the same. On master page ensure that you have inserted links into the nav bar.

Have fun

Thank you for your comprehensive and helpful explanation. I have now jumped that hurdle but I have uploading issues. When I preview the pages they are as I want them at the moment BUT although the MASTER background appears there is no sign of the navigational panel!

Once again, thank you for your patience

Have you placed the Nav panel onto the Master Page. Ensure that other pages have got the UseMasterPage box tick at the bottom of properties and also unsure that you have selected the master page from drop down list below UseMasterPage at the bottom of properties. Delete any other nav panels on other pages, if you can see them in RC. But only do this if you want all pages to look like master page.

I just do not know what is going wrong. In Preview the site is perfect but when uploaded I lose many of the features - i.e. the menu bar, the formatting, the background message. A reminder I am a WYSIWYG user.

Difficult to say without seeing it. Maybe you could upload a screenshot or the .rcd file. Alternativly, just contact support, they will likely be able to help you too.

I am being quite pathetic now but how do you upload the rcd file? All I can see is the facility for text.

There is also a e-mail address printed on that page

No you're not. I'm a WYSIWYG designer, well I design my own, and there are times when I cannot see the wood for the trees. I go to bed at night having worked for hours trying to find a solution to a problem and wake up in the early hours with what seems to be the answer.

For example, index.html. I wanted to know if the first page that you start working on, in my case it was the masterpage.html, would be called the index.html page. Or, should it be the first page in the number of pages going to the project as a whole. I couldn't find the answer in the tutorials. To me it seemed logical that the first page you design would be the index.html. Well I was wrong. I did wonder whether to ask the question on this forum but some replies to other posters seem quite condescending so I did a search on here and trawled through the pages until I found the answer.

Never be afraid to ask. Remember, the person who has never made a mistake has yet to be born. Sometimes a solution can be staring you in the face but you can't see it. A simple question asked will normally bring forth an answer; hopefully.

The reason I use WYSIWYG is because don't have the time to spend learning the coding. I was jumping between this programme and a replacement for Freeway called Xway. However Xway is incomplete, still in its beta form, so I've remained with RocketCake and will be purchasing the Pro version shortly to show my support for the producer of this tool.

Sometimes the browser page needs to be FORCED TO REFRESH, usually CTRL+F5 but check your browser instructions.
