New game idea

I don't have time to start making a new game so anyone out there, I have a great & funny idea for a new game:

"Shopping Battles: Covid-19"

If you seen some Australian news of shoppers fighter over stuff then you would know what I mean...

You need to accumulate as much stuff and humanly possible within the time limit. You fight and steal other shopping out of their trolleys while inside the shopping center before they get to the checkout.

You can throw items at shoppers and hit them over the head with toilet paper and the likes..You have to run and grab than run off again to keep the items..

Fist fights and wrestling is allowed.

Top points awarded for toilet paper and hand sanitizer, after that liquid soap and other long term storage items like rice and noodles.

As silly as all this sounds, people would laugh big time if someone could do a nice job at this and would be a winner for sure..

I'm sorry, but I totally disagree... I don't see anything "fun" or "funny" about this virus. It is just my opinion... but to make a Game out of it or the way people have panicked about it, would just be poor taste....

but again, that's just how I feel about it.

first of all, I do apologize. It certainly is not my place to criticize someone's ideas about their Game design. My games have mostly been "shooters" and isn't it also poor taste to make a game about killing?

But, shooting aliens or giant spiders ( neither of which actually exist) just doesn't seem the same as stealing stuff out of some old woman's shopping cart at Walmart...

But... people should be creative and develop games they think would be a good play based on their ideas. I would encourage EVERYONE to make whatever Game the decide on. And if I disagree with the premise... I simply don't have to play it...

So, again I do apologize.

Its cool, its not making fun of the virus but the poor choice certain people make during a crisis. By making a joke about that particular behavior would only highlight how silly it all is...(the behavior, not the virus).

It could lighten the severity of the situation most people are feeling also while they stuck indoors..

Anyway, was a good idea for someone to look at..

Yes, just view most games today - extremely violent and graphic and just horrible in reality, many are very dark. Games like that would make this one look like a joke (which it is).

Well said, Robo...

and you are correct - most games have a morality factor that would be totally denied in reality... I guess my own set moral beliefs are carried over into my game designs.

maybe that's why my games have not made me a millionaire?

Naw.... I probably just make lousy games... oh well, not every one can be a Michelangelo

This is puzzling, it does seems to be an interesting idea but it's also very controversial.

I'm not a purist, actually I'm very far from it, but I believe that the reason why extreme violence is applicable in entertainment, especially gaming, is because it's a human-based behavior derived from a choice and it's a mimic of a real-world behavior.

When you're playing as a soldier, cop, terrorist, psychopath, demon, killer or a victim, you are choosing to inflict/escape violence because you're in a specific human-based role confronted with other human-based behaving characters. That role can be ethical or unethical but you choose to participate and you are responsible for successful or unsuccessful gameplay-outcome.

That way most games have a clear divider: Nazis are bad / Allies are good, Jedi is good / Sith is bad, Elves are good / Goblins are bad...

Virus is not a human-based behavior and it's effects are not a matter of choice, it's a disease that is not good or bad because, as an entity, it has no concepts of good or bad. That makes it, as some people would put it, Lovecraftian, or part of a 'cosmic horror' lore. But Lovecraft never wrote about real diseases but only about fantasy-diseases. Covid-19 is a currently active disease. It would be the same thing as making a game about WW2 during the WW2 where Allies can lose.

Even now, after so much time, people are still very sensitive to games/movies featuring Plague, Anthrax or similar disasters, it always has to be created with much consideration.
