Should work - I use .pngs with alpha channel and gifs without problem. Maybe your image isn't transparent?

Everything was ok in version 3.0. In version 3.1. the background is black.

Are you using Windows or MacOS? You can send me the .rcd or image file (see support -> contact on this website, there is an email adress printed on the bottom as well), and I'll have a look what is wrong.
