For the past year I've worked on a remake of a PS2 game which is close to my heart (Monsters, Inc.) in this engine. It's been a very long and frustrating ride...

Starting today, I will start over from scratch. Most of what I planned is not going to be in the game due to the amount of work it'd take...

It will have over 30 levels if it all goes as planned! Along with a bit over 100 unique characters.

Screens look great, good work!
Over 30 levels & 100 characters seems like a lot to handle, even just from the engine's standpoint. Hope you get all things done.

Well, it'll be a lot of work, yes, but considering the fact that I managed to add ladder climbing + character shadows which are in sync with the characters and also ziplines, I think I'll manage :)

I'm sure you can manage coding, mechanics & visuals, I was thinking more about time-management :) The 30 levels & 100 characters count gave me an instant headache :) But it's just a projection of my own development-speed, I'm not sure if you're planning to do everything yourself or you're planning to assemble a small team, maybe you're having some outside help from time to time ...just disregard my comment, it was more of a impulsive reaction on my own fears of not getting things finished :)

Yes, true. Well, I hope to have it done by March 19, 2022 (which is the 20th anniversary of the original game's release date). I'm guessing I'll have it done way before then, but it won't be released until then. In the event that I don't manage to finish it by that date, I won't ever finish it as it's too big of an opportunity to miss!

I'll have to publish the shadow technique soon. It's quite effective. It's basically what devs did for the PS2-era of games: it uses meshes which are parented to the main character and it shares the same animations as it!

An update:

I won't be adding all of the cut levels in my version. Instead I will be doing only the 8 main levels found in the original game. No collectibles or anything. I will, however, compensate for this by adding a few of the cut levels after I finish all 8 of the main ones...
