Tricks for character shadows?

I'm looking to have character shadows in my game since it looks quite bad without them, but I can't figure out if this could be "faked" any... I was thinking maybe some sort of trick with water surfaces could be done, but nope. If anyone could think of a way for me to have character shadows, then this would be nice... Realtime shadows aren't ideal since my levels are all inside structures!

I'd also really like to see this in CC in a not to distant future :-)

Me too... My worlds have some good lighting, but the lack of actual character shadows is bringing it down :( The realtime character shadows look exactly as I need them, but as I said, 99% of the levels I'm working on are all inside so this cannot be used...

All I can contribute is a very basic old-school trick that I'm using in my game. I just place a semi-transparent image below my characters that moves with him :) In Copper you just need to sett IrrEdit>ZBuffer to -10 or higher so that the sprite (image) is always on-top of other geometry.

This is how it looks in my game:

I know it's not great but it's not completely off and, since CC is not really equipped for realistic games, it can do the job in most cases :)

Ah... did you use a plane? Did you simply parent the plane to the character and put it underneath him?

Yeah, it's a plane & I just parented the object underneath the player.

Just one thing, if you're planning both exe & html exports you will need two images because the one that looks good in WebGL is almost invisible in Desktop builds :) The one for Desktop will have to be about 50% less transparent than the one for WebGL.

Ah, that sollution is absolutely brilliant! (and a well made demo too!)

For me it's not ideal since I need the shape of the characters :) But yes, for at least some types of games this would be more than ideal. It's a neat workaround
