Hello, I'm new here, so a bit about my background seems to be the first logical step. I have a two year degree in computer programming, but no practical experience beyond my own basic programs. Meaning I haven't used my new found skills out in the working world yet. So, I know a modest amount of Visual Basic.NET, C(sharp), and some Java. I will be continuing on for my Masters specifically in game programming/design. For the next 2 years I will be working with C/C++ and, I would imagine, DirectX. I will also have classes in 3D modelling but know nothing about the process yet. I'm not very good at the sit around and wait thing so I went out and downloaded Irrlicht 1.5, irrEdit 1.5, irrKlang-1.1.3, Blender, and Anim8or in an effort to get a jump on next semester. However, I have been unable to find any tutorials beyond the 3 mentioned elsewhere on these forums. Does anybody know if a newer, more in depth tutorial is in the works? Near as I can tell from reading the other posts, irrEdit is only for combining objects created in other programs, such as Blender, together to form a map. Is that right and if so, what is done about the "ground" that the objects would be placed on? Is that created within irrEdit or elsewhere like the objects? Would that be a single piece or made up of tiles? As if those questions weren't enough, here's one more. The irrlicht engine, would anybody here know if that would be good for an outdoor environment or if it was geared more towards an indoor first person shooter? Thanks |

Simple create your 3d model in anim8or or blender and import it into irrEdit, that's how it's supposed to work :) |

Thanks but what about... I have been unable to find any tutorials beyond the 3 mentioned elsewhere on these forums. Does anybody know if a newer, more in depth tutorial is in the works? and......what is done about the "ground" that the objects would be placed on? Is that created within irrEdit or elsewhere like the objects? Would that be a single piece or made up of tiles? The last one about irrlicht I can take over to their forums.

There are no more official tutorials, sorry. About the ground: Depends on the type of scene or game you want to make. |

No problem, thanks for the info. Maybe after I get some proficiency with it, I can put something together for people down the road who find themselves where I am now. |
