My New Coppercube Elevator - IT WORKS GOOD!

A little while back I asked forum member just_in_case if he could give me a standalone Coppercube file sample of his elevator from his cutscene file, which he was very gracious enough to do so and I thank him for that.

I was able to study carefully just_in_case's Coppercube elevator file and what I learned from it and along with some reading from the JavaScript Scripting reference section, I was able to come up with my own designed Coppercube elevator.

I was able to fix some of the camera's very bad jittery movements while using the elevator using a two interchangeable camera trick and a connected mix of a whole bunch of actions and behaviors along with a few proximity sensors. To operate the elevator, I employed the use of actual 3d clickable buttons.

The elevator, the buttons, the floors and the rest of the 3d mesh were all imported as collada files from Sketchup. Even though this might be one of the better working elevator example around, it is not perfect. There are still some issues concerning the camera inside the elevator, but compared to how it used to be, I think there somewhat minor now.

HERE ARE SOME SCREEN GRABS FROM INSIDE COPPERCUBE OF MY ELEVATOR:

I am looking for any help and ideas on how to make this elevator example better. Any and all suggestions are welcome and no idea is too crazy.

Thanks for all of the kind words, everybody. Just remember on what I said, this elevator example still has room for improvement, I am not done on trying to make better, and I also hope others will help me make it better.

hi, if you try to move the position a first person camera's y axis from an action as 'animated' its going to get jittery and look like freakin crap. instead you can move it 'every 1 millisecond' and it should work fine.

@ tim12345: Wow, that example of yours is great, that is exactly what I have been looking for! Not only does the camera experience no jittery movements, but you can actually move the camera around while the elevator is in motion! I tried to follow your instructions to try to duplicate your example, but for some reason I could not get it to work. I am not really a very good coder, I do stuff mostly by visual examples. Can you please provide the Coppercube file to your elevator example for download so I can get it, study it and really understand how you did it? I would really appreciate it and I would be in your debt. Can you, please?

@ tim12345: Holy,...that's one heck of a Coppercube file you made there! Just downloaded it a few minutes ago and opened it up in my copy of Coppercube, and man,...I got blown away by the amount of different behaviors and actions all working together nicely. I got to say, it's going to take me a while to get it all in and adapted to my project. Well tim12345, thank you very much for your hard work and especially for sharing this with me and the rest of the forum community. Can't wait to see what you do next....

@ tim12345: I think I'm might have over estimated my abilities of completely understanding the way you did your elevator example. I pretty much understand most of the setup and use of the different behaviors and actions you employed in your elevator coppercube file. But where I ran in to trouble is when I tried to adapt the mix of all the different variables and values you used on your elevator in to my elevator, I could only get it to work partially. I think the main problem I am facing is that your version of a elevator moves from point "A" to point "B" and then back to point "A", while my elevator version has 3 possible destination points, "A", "B" and "C". Getting it to work by having the elevator move to point "C" (the third floor) is becoming mission impossible for me. I was wondering if you might have any ideas how to get around this problem. I know it can be done, but I just don't have a deep enough understanding of the inner workings of JavaScript. Anyway, I was thinking of suggesting that you download the coppercube file to my elevator example and try to see if you could apply your style of programing you used on your elevator to my elevator coppercube file. I know this could sound like a tall order, but if you are willing, I am open to negotiate a compen$ation for your troubles, if it comes to that. Well, I hope you think about it and let me know what you want to do.

hi santito, sorry i am very busy right now, so i will not be able to examine the file until this weekend. I'll check it out this weekend and see if i can integrate my system into your file. should be able to... adding another floor to the equation along with option to go up or down will add yet even more complexity to the variable system.
