If 2.79 doesn't work, then try 2.49. I used 2.49 to mod Skyrim on a crappy Windows 7 laptop.

I don't recall the specs of that old laptop. 2 GBs RAM should be sufficient to do the stuff needed for CC. Just make sure you are using an older version of Blender. It's not like you need to render anything. You can also fiddle with the settings to drop the performance load and make sure you hide objects that you don't need present in the scene. You can also drop the Display Resolution, I believe.

If you have an internet browser open while using Blender, then you're probably asking for trouble, too. Browsers are performance hogs.

You're welcome. If your experience with old Blender is still crap, try using Wings3D. You won't be able to rig animations in it, but you can still create meshes and rig them in something like Mixamo. Old games didn't have fancy rigs. If you are going for something with a low-poly resolution/PSX aesthetic, you can get by with tweening/interpolating between two positions with multiple meshes parented together - no rig needed.

Or try mixamo online for quick and easy rigging and animating with low resources.
