While importing models, I would like the grid to be solid so I know where the floor is. Is there any way to make the floor solid or create a very thin floor to make importing easier?

Very thin floor you can create a plane and use it as floor.. or use terrain that has set max height to 0.. so its flat plane.

plane instead of terrain uses less resources i think if you do not know that.
