Increasing the divergence will pull it forwards (out of the screen). Decreasing divergence will push it backwards (into the screen).
It works best (more dramatically) if your camera has converged lenses which point inwards (not parallel to each other). Increasing the divergence of parallel images does also work, but it will make close-up objects look glitchy. This is because converged lenses make more sense to the brain (because that's how our eyes work). Although converged lenses are generally better, parallel lenses are way more popular (because they are cheaper to manufacture and easier to use). My 3D camera has a built-in divergence button - but you can also do it manually if you don't have these features. stphmkrpro is a decent free software for this. I would imagine that youtube also has some decent built-in divergence settings - but I've not checked. Don't push it too far forwards though, as it will become uncomfortable for the viewers eyes (even when using a stereo-viewer, glasses or 3D screen). I think the pop-out effect can only be done as a post-process (no matter how far apart the lenses are from each other, the camera will always produce an image that originally appears behind the screen) - but I've managed to make some really effective images (which appear in front of the screen) just by slightly adjusting the divergence setting afterwards. This can be done for photos, videos and games but personally I think it works best with photos - photos look amazing with a slightly higher divergence, but games and video seem to be a much better experience with a slightly smaller (subtle) 3D divergence effect. My old laptop had a built-in Nvidia 3D screen with glasses and VorpX , I really loved it and played all my games in 3D - but can't find another 3D screen since I upgraded my computer. I got a second-hand PS4 VR helmet for my laptop but it's quite bulky so I hardly ever use it any more. *cry*
