At times when I import a 3d model, and then I'll try to select whatever side on that model that I want to texture it won't add the image..

Can't tell much without a screenshot or what exactly the problem is...
May be using pack all textures into one.. will solve your problem.. or maybe the resolution of your texture is too huge.... Try decreasing the resolution of the texture...
