What bug exactly?
About weapon system: You usually use a game actor behavior and plug in a 'shoot' action in the 'attack' slot.

However, there is nothing holding you back from making your own combat system. It depends on what system you're trying to make though. I've had a lot of trouble attempting to create a turn based play style.
