u3d format ---> Coppercube

Hello,

I'm trying to import meshes from SolidWork (SW). SW allows u3d but not coppercube.

Does someone knows a (clean) method to translate u3d format into something coppercube accept ? (.obj or .3ds, for example).

Regards

Falcon.

I think it is possible by importing the u3d in unwrap and export it as b3d (or any other format Coppercube supports). But yes, this requires ultimate unwrap, which costs money. Maybe there is another solution..

Mention "free" and "3D" and, of course, someone says "Blender," which can export CopperCube-compatible geometry (OBJ or 3DS), but in this situation there's a catch.

Googling "blender solidworks import" reveals a u3d Blender *exporter* but no *importer* so, according to online wisdom, you must export from SolidWorks as a different format. I've seen STL and VRM mentioned but each has additional issues when imported.

I can't find "u3d" or "solidworks" on Ultimate Unwrap's supported formats site, though, so this is a tricky operation in any case.

Hm, with b3d I didn't mean blender but the b3d format, I think it's blitz 3d.

Maybe UU3D, it converted in many formats very well

http://www.unwrap3d.com/u3d/inde...

What happen with your model if you try to import it in CC ?

Not in all case the format is wrong, but the model or the export settings

Maybe you can uplaod a model from SW and we can test for you

Ok.

1- I installed UU3D.
2- I saved a SolidWork objetct under u3d format.
3- I tried to load the object with UU3D

------> UU3D says : "Plugin not found OR file not supported"

Hummm .... Life is so beautiful ...

4- Ok. I went on www.unwrap3d.com searching for a plugin.
In Download/third party plugin : "Ultimate Unwrap 3D pro xxx" ... NICE !!

BUT, trying to load it I get a "Request Failed there was an error processing your request. If you're using a download manager, try disabling it. Otherwise, please try again later or contact support for help."

But but but : JS is enabled in firefox's about:config. Same problem with Chrome browser.

And you ? Does someone can send me the plugin ? (annu01@free.fr)

Nico does a free method to translate u3d into something CC can eat exist ?

Or any other method for sending 3D object from SolidWork to CC ?

Ok. So I must pay. t

But peanuts compared to SW.
I think, if Niko would have a solution for you he already told.

Well, CAD is not the usual choise to make assets

Therefore You should looking for a proper SW exporter or converter , because CC can handle formats from the most another 3D programms very well.

eg. actually obj is standard in the most programms

What about MeshLab?

Thanck you FairyGirl, you're a fair lady ... ;o)

Unfortunately I'm still in troubles. I spent hours and hours trying to get a valid convertion without success. STL format works but colours are lost. .IGS format (that I can open with 3DSMAX) lost colours too (I saw on WEB that SW's export quality is image quality dependent, so I tried changing it under SW, without success). I spent hours trying to install a MACRO exporting SW objects in .obj, I succeeded, but I get a very very very strange result in 3DSMAX, as CC crash !!!

Meshlab doesn't want to load .wrl format built by SW ...
UU3D seem to refuse loading .u3d from SW because it is wrong format file ! (UU3D accept loading .3DS files so I thinck it is a SW's file format problem).

I stop here ... I spent days and nights and my eyes are in poor state ...

I asked Nico for a second time because I thought he was thinking I solved the problem ...

So NICO, if you have a solution ... Or if you put a SW's file importer in CC you would offer me a nice Christmas (but you can send me the gift before december ... ;o) )

When I say "I stop here" I mean : I stop explaining what happened during these hours spent searching for a solution !

I still *need* to load SW files in CC !!!!

We beg for so long for a fbx importer, I can not imagine that you get such an exotic format very fast.

If you lost your color could be a indiz, you have no UV mapped your model.

Not 100% sure but the latest ViaCad by punch cad may help you.
It is currently on sale for $100 via SmithMicro. It normally costs around $270. I am also happy to test the object for you if needed.

I would LOVE a FBX importer! Iclone to Coppercube with no messing around would be great!
